Childbirth is Deadlier for Black Families Video & Discussion
The WTTW program, Chicago Tonight: Black Voices, recently highlighted a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research that speaks about the dangers of childbirth for Black families. While the study uses data for families in California, it shines a light on what Black mothers and babies in the United States are experiencing. The tv report includes a discussion with friend of Sokana Collective, Midwife Jeanine Valrie Logan, Lead Steward and Founder of the Chicago South Side Birth Center and Dr. Dawne Collier, an associate professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois Chicago.
