Meet Shakia

Hi Iā€™m Shakia N. Flowers, CMFT and I am a decolonizing behavioral health provider, certified life coach, and postpartum doula. I have been a community/labor organizer, and social justice activist for over 25 years. I earned my master's degree as a Couples Marriage and Family Therapist from Adler University and a bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. I currently provide mental health services at a women's transitional living shelter, where I provide support to women who are experiencing houselessness and living with mental illness. The goal of treatment is to stabilize with a goal of sustaining safe and adequate housing. I have a passion for working with new parents to establish balance and goals while navigating new parenthood. I recently embarked on entrepreneurial endeavor by opening Liberated Coaching and Doula Services providing life coaching and postpartum doula services. I have decades of experiences providing culturally responsive therapy and body work with a special focus on Black and Brown women experiencing anxiety, depression, and complex trauma; Folx whose identities intersect in the queer, gender non-conforming, and transitioning community; as well as individuals impacted by the United States criminal legal system, as well as individuals living with chronic medical conditions.
